Types of Yamaha Motorcycles

Yamaha is a maker of diverse motorcycles. With a lineup that includes entries in just about every segment, the brand caters to all types of motorcycle enthusiasts.

It may, however, be best known for sport and off-road motorcycles. Carve corners on the YZF-R1 sport bike or see why the TW200 dual sport has been popular since its debut in 1987! You’re always in for a thrill with a Yamaha motorbike.

Get out and ride on the bike best tailored to you! This brand does:

  • Motocross
  • Hyper Naked
  • Cross Country
  • Adventure Touring
  • Dual Sport
  • Sport Touring
  • Supersport
  • Scooter

Yamaha’s largest segment is its off-road motorcycles. These include street-legal bikes: the on-off road models like the Super Ténéré and TW200 as well as dirt bikes for recreation and competition.

From Soundboards to Cycles: Yamaha’s History

Yamaha Motor Company was established in 1955 upon separation from Yamaha Corporation, the well-known piano manufacturing company. That same year, the Japanese motorcycle maker released its first bike: the YA-1 Motorcycle.

125cc, 2-stroke, single-cylinder, street bike—they called it the “Red Dragonfly”. It won the first two races it entered that year, putting Yamaha on the map. In 1958, the first Yamaha motorcycles were sold in the United States—the YD1 and MF-1.

Yamaha would go on to see several decades of success. It won its first Daytona 200 in 1972 and was unbeatable for more than 10 years! Just a few short years after that initial win, the brand would pioneer the world’s first single-shock, production motocross bike and change the sport forever.

Are Yamaha Motorcycles Good?

Motorcycle riders are a unique type. Few people are bold enough to hurtle down the road at 60 MPH with little between them and the pavement! Those daredevils who do, they care about motorcycle quality, reliability, and safety.

According to a Consumer Reports study, Yamaha is rated by owners as the most reliable brand.* With just an 11 percent failure rate on a four-year-old bike, it scores the best among manufacturers.

Yamaha provides affordable and reliable transportation. Those qualities have made it a trusted brand for the most avid motorcyclists!
