Ducati XDiavel Review

Ducati refreshes its XDiavel range for 2021 with two new versions. We’re eager to review them for riders near Philadelphia, PA; Wilmington, DE; and Cherry Hill, NJ, and introduce you to the performance soul behind this sport cruiser.

At Quaker City Motor Sport, we know motorcycles. And we know the new Ducati XDiavel lives up to its reputation as a fusion of opposites: a low-speed, relaxed cruiser and a true Ducati performer!

XDiavel Black Star: Inspired by the World of Sports Cars

The sporty side of this Ducati cruiser is on display in the XDiavel Black Star. A new version, it features exclusive livery that alternates matte gray and black.

Of course, it wouldn’t feel complete without a dab of Ducati Red! You’ll see it on the engine head covers, where clean, sharp, intersecting color bands evoke the geometric concept of the X that defines this line of bikes.

Beneath you, unique forged wheels will carry you forward. Machined and painted a glossy black, they give the XDiavel Black Star its own sense of character. The bike’s forged, anodized side frame plates feature visible machining that adds to the sporty styling.

XDiavel Dark: A 20-Year Affair with Matte Black

Ducati has used shades of matte black for more than 20 years. Back in 1998, the Monster 600 Dark became the first model to use this bold hue—and the response was enthusiastic to say the least. The new XDiavel Dark sees that tradition live on.

But here’s where things really get interesting: The XDiavel Dark extends the black to the mechanics and finishes. Yes, the blackout is total. A better example of Ducati’s “Reduce to the Max” design mantra could hardly be imagined.

The sleek darkness serves to accent the beautiful lines and shapes of this bike. A wide range of standard equipment is yours, as in the other Ducati XDiavel models:

  • ABS Cornering and Ducati Traction Control
  • Ducati Power Launch
  • Full-LED lighting system

Performance: Powered by a Testastretta Twin-Cylinder

The entire XDiavel 2021 range runs on the Ducati Testastretta DVT 1262 twin-cylinder. With an updated silencer layout and a new engine calibration, this engine is ready for the modern world of motorcycles. Let’s look at the specs:

  • 160 HP @ 9,500 RPM
  • 92.9 lb-ft of torque @ 5,000 RPM

Remember, 80% of the maximum available XDiavel torque is already available at 2,100 RPM. As a result, you can accelerate without the need to shift down a gear. Just gently open the throttle and let the bike take care of the rest.

The engine looks more aesthetically appealing than ever. A new design enhances every line—and the water pump is positioned inside the V of the cylinders. There, it stays hidden along with the cooling system pipes for a much cleaner look.
